A stroke is a medical condition that can cause serious, permanent damage to the brain due to an interruption in the blood supply to the brain. Symptoms of a stroke can include sudden numbness or weakness in one side of the body, confusion and difficulty speaking, slurred speech, difficulty seeing in one or both eyes, dizziness or difficulty maintaining balance, sudden and severe headache, difficulty walking, and loss of consciousness. Immediate medical care is essential for a stroke, as the longer, the interruption in blood supply persists, the worse the damage can be. Treatment for strokes usually involves a combination of medications, lifestyle changes, physical therapy, and/or surgery.
